Chaos in the Apex: A Roller Derby Art Exhibition

413 2nd St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102, USA

DESCRIPTION

Experience the raw energy, resilience, and creativity of the Albuquerque Roller Derby community at Chaos in the Apex, an art show opening on Friday, February 7th, from 6-9 PM at Zendo during Albuquerque Art Walk. The exhibition will run through March 5th.  Artwork featured in the show will be available for purchase via silent auction.  Proceeds benefit Albuquerque Roller Derby (ABQRD), a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) athletic organization dedicated to fostering a strong, inclusive roller derby community through positivity, communication, and teamwork.

Curated by ABQRD league member Shaelyn Moody (aka "Demolition Doll"), Chaos in the Apex showcases artworks created by the members of ABQRD and its extended community. Just as roller derby is a thrilling and chaotic sport -- where skaters navigate high-impact hits, strategic plays, and the electrifying moment of an apex jump -- this exhibition mirrors that dynamic energy through a diverse collection of visual expressions.  Though visually distinct, each artwork reflects the powerful individuality of the skaters and their supporters. Together, these pieces illustrate the strength, camaraderie, and unique personalities that define ABQRD.

According to Moody, the included works "reflect the beauty of the many different personalities that have found each other within ABQRD. Each individual on the team supports and balances another, as do each of these pieces of art, making us all stronger than we could have been on our own."

The exhibition serves as both a celebration of this passionate community and a fundraiser for the league.  Funds raised from the silent auction of the show's artwork will directly support ABQRD's travel, gear, and bout production expenses. Attendees are encouraged to bid on their favorite pieces and show their support for local artists and athletes alike.
