Lincoln Center Summer for the City presents Brazil Week: Anelis Assumpção

1887 Broadway, New York, NY 10023, USA

DESCRIPTION

Brazilian singer-songwriter Anelis Assumpção's father Itamar was a meaningful figure in the history-making São Paolo DIY movement Vanguarda Paulistanta. She has followed in his footsteps, channeling the socially critical, intellectually liberal and culturally diverse perspectives of that tradition into her work. Assumpção's music is a lively blend of jazz, funk, prog rock, dub reggae, samba and pop, all held aloft by her sinewy, melodic voice. Assumpção's art synthesizes the ancestry of the Afro-Brazilian people, presenting their authentic experience through words and rhythms. She has released four albums, a children's book, and numerous singles and noteworthy collaborations, establishing herself as one of the most important artists of her generation. She also serves as the director of MU.ITA—the Itamar Assumpção Museum—which will present an exhibit at the David Rubenstein Atrium and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, celebrating Itamar’s memory and showcasing his rich legacy to the New York audience.

There are two ways to access this free event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.
