Samantha Shay's Mother Melancholia to screen at Dance Camera West Film Festival

On January 20, 2023 at 7pm, Samantha Shay's short film Mother Melancholia will screen as part of Dance Camera West film festival at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. The festival will feature more than 60 films over three days from January 19-21, 2023. Tickets range from $10 to $150 for festival passes plus free admission for all outdoor screenings. Mother Melancholia is a multi-layered portrait of four women and a eulogy for the planet set to, and inspired by, Icelandic instrumentalist Sóley's album of the same title. A self-proclaimed soundtrack for the end of the world as we know it, the dance film approaches patriarchal politics and ecofeminism through an unguarded, unsettlingly beautiful meditation on the difficulty, and immediacy, of being fully present in the world. Filmed in the surreal and eroding Icelandic landscape, Mother Melancholia is a quiet, yet urgent, conduit between the internal world of the human experience and the planet we inhabit.
