10k Magical Read & Run

2351 Boston Post Rd #205, Guilford, CT 06437, USA

DESCRIPTION

"The Restricted Section was right at the back of the library. Stepping carefully over the rope that separated these books from the rest of the library, he held up his lamp to read the titles."

The HPA has been changing the world and empowering real-world heroes since 2005. In 2020, the world needs heroes more than ever, so we’re shining a light in the darkness with a fundraising event like no other!

The 10k Magical Read & Run!

Everyone who registers for this event will get this awesome 3" glow-in-the dark medal featuring a lantern to guide you through late night library adventures or runs through the forbidden forest. It hangs on a custom, dye-sublimated ribbon with velcro attachment so it works on all medal hangers. Participants will also get an awesome custom digital bib that you can print out or use online...and you get to pick any name and number you want!  Make it fun!

Just like our past virtual races, you can run, walk, or wheel this 10K any time you want, in the comfort of your own neighborhood, no matter where you live. But we'd love for you to complete your distance on October 31st and we encourage you to share your adventure using our official event hashtag: #LightintheDark10K. Let us know how you’re preparing for the big day from now through October 31 and then post your race-day pictures across all social media platforms.

But let’s be real: not everyone wants to step outside or in a gym right now. So in 2020, you can also earn our virtual race medal by reading! Our wizard accountants crunched the numbers and found that it takes an average of 15,000 steps to complete a 10K - so we’re asking readers to read 150,000 words (that’s roughly 600 pages or two young adult novels!) by October 31. We’ll even send you recommendations for what you can read to meet the goal!

Remember that since this is a virtual event, you go at your pace. If you want to run or read the entire distance in one go, that’s awesome! If you’d rather break it up into chunks throughout October, that’s awesome too! Whatever you choose, share your photos with us using #LightintheDark10K on October 31, 2020.

Your registration is a tax-deductible donation to HPA and will help us continue our groundbreaking campaigns and leadership programs to use the power of story and popular culture to make activism accessible and sustainable! We're turning fans into heroes!

Registration closes on Halloween at midnight PDT (or when we reach 1000 registrations) and all of the medals will be mailed the first week of November.

Finally, we would like to thank our friends at Random Tuesday and their Powered By Fanthropy program for facilitating this event.  If you have any questions or problems, they are eager to help, so don't hesitate to contact them at support@rantue.org.
