DESCRIPTION

Bike to Brooklyn is an extraordinary endurance fundraising experience. Participants will cycle approximately 267 miles in 30 hours, from Washington DC to Brooklyn NY, with the opportunity to participate in a half marathon run upon arrival. Participants also have the option to join the ride in Baltimore and in Philadelphia. Please note the fundraising requirements for each purchase option. Read below for more information.

Proceeds from this event support the efforts of Run Hope Work: a Washington DC based nonprofit organization helping at-risk young people transform their lives through running, mentoring, and hands-on job training. Bike to Brooklyn is a challenging endeavor, but it is one you will remember for a lifetime! Regardless of fitness and skill level, with a few months of training and the right attitude, anyone can complete this ride. We encourage you to join our training rides each weekend. Details for these training rides are posted on our social media pages each week.

We will even work with you to create your own personal training program. Simply email biketobrooklyn@runhopework.org along with your previous endurance training experience and current fitness level. Connect with us so that we can put together the best training program for you!

All participants receive:

Transportation back to your starting location for you and your bike

Ride Support Includes:

Motor vehicle lead support

SAG vehicle support

Bike mechanics and first aid for the duration of the event

Fuel stops every 40 miles (all meals included)

Check-in stops every 20 miles

Registration Options

When registering, participants may choose between paying the full fee or paying a partial amount and fundraising the rest. If you choose to pay the full fee, fundraising is not necessary, although still greatly appreciated. Once a participant registers, they will receive an email with directions to set up their fundraising page. If the participant fails to reach their fundraising pledge by October 21, 2017, the remainder will be charged to the credit card used for their purchase. Participants who raise more funds than required will be eligible to win special prizes!

The full fee from DC/Baltimore to NY is $675 and the full fee from Philadelphia to NY is $400.

Schedule

DC- Bike to Brooklyn 2017 departs Saturday morning at 5 am from BicycleSPACE in Adams Morgan.

Baltimore, MD- 7:30 am arrival. Our first stop in Baltimore at Twenty 20 Cycling includes breakfast and coffee from our friends at Cafe Latte Da. 8 am departure

Havre De Grace, MD- 11:30 am arrival. We stop for a picnic lunch provided by Vagabond Sandwich Company at the scenic Susquehanna State Park on the coast of the Susquehanna River. 12 pm departure

New Castle, DE- 2:30 pm arrival. This highway pit stop includes plenty of food options at New Castle Farmer’s Market. 3 pm departure

Philadelphia, PA- 6 pm arrival. We take a long break at Transport Cycle in Philadelphia. Participants can tune up, rest, shower, and enjoy dinner courtesy of Whole Foods. Those joining the ride in Philadelphia will meet here. 10 pm Departure

Princeton, NJ- 1 am Sunday arrival. Our Princeton stop includes late-night subs from Hoagie Haven on the Princeton University campus. 1:30 am departure

Brooklyn, NY- 6 am arrival. Here, participants receive a warm welcome at Community Be Good Guest House, including breakfast. Those wishing to run the half marathon will depart for the run. Those who skip the run are encouraged to stick around for the Post Challenge Celebration.

Post Challenge Celebration- 12 pm

Vans depart for cities of origin (Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC)- 3 pm

All times are estimates and are subject to change.

Registration fees are non-refundable. Transfers for registrations and fundraising commitments are available for a fee of 10% of the original purchase price. The last day to request a transfer is August 31, 2017.

General FAQs

Can participants join the ride between DC and NY? Yes, there will be designated locations in Baltimore and Philadelphia where participants can join the ride. Riders wishing to join the ride from another location are requested to contact biketobrooklyn@runhopework.org.

What is the average pace? Bike to Brooklyn will have two paced groups. Group A 18-20 MPH and Group B 14-16 MPH.

Will I be able to take a break from cycling and ride along in the SAG van? Yes, you may ride along in the SAG vehicle at any stop along the route.

Can participants leave the ride in cities between DC and NY? Riders wishing to depart Bike to Brooklyn may do so for any reason. Bike to Brooklyn requests that you notify a team leader and sign a document stating that you have departed the event.

How do I receive my rider information packet? We will be sending all participants a “Rider information Packet" via email shortly before the event.

Do you offer bike rentals? We are excited to announce Spinlister as our official bike rental provider! Spinlister has agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds from Bike to Brooklyn rentals to Run Hope Work! Just be sure to enter the coupon code BTB-RHW on the payment screen. This is perfect for those coming from out of town or anyone in need of a road bike to complete this ride!

What hotels do you recommend for Friday night in DC if I am coming from out of town? The following hotels are in close proximity to our starting location at BicycleSPACE in Adams Morgan: Windsor Inn, Kimpton Carlyle Hotel, Courtyard Marriott, Washington Hilton, The Embassy Inn.

Fundraising FAQs

What if I raise more than my fundraising goal? Those who raise more money than their fundraising goal will be eligible for awesome prizes!

What if I don’t meet my fundraising goal? Any unpaid balance will be charged to the credit card used for your deposit on October 21, 2017.

Can donors contribute to my personal fundraising via check? Yes, donors may contribute to your fundraising effort via check. Please make all checks payable to Run Hope Work - Bike to Brooklyn.

Can I make a donation to the general team? Yes. Donations can be made here.
