2025 D-Day to Canada Challenge 7th annual

4556 Trans-Canada Hwy, Kakabeka Falls, ON P0T 1W0, Canada

DESCRIPTION

Come join us for the SEVENTH annual D-DAY to Canada Challenge - put on by the Kakabeka Fall Legion Half Marathon and 8K - We have been virtual before it was cool to be virtual

Juno Beach was the Allied code name for a 10 km stretch of French coastline assaulted by Canadian soldiers on D-Day, 6 June 1944, during the Second World War. The Canadian Army’s 3rd Infantry Division and 2nd Armoured Brigade seized the beach and its seaside villages while under intense fire from German defenders — an extraordinary example of military skill, reinforced by countless acts of personal courage. The 3rd Infantry Division took heavy casualties in its first wave of attack but took control of the beach by the end of the day. More than 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed or parachuted into France on D-Day. The Royal Canadian Navy contributed 110 warships and 10,000 sailors and the RCAF contributed 15 fighter and fighter-bomber squadrons to the assault. There were 1,074 Canadian casualties, including 359 killed.

There is NO cost to join in and participate -- and once the Challenge starts, we will post on Friday each week all of the participants' totals

For Silver the requirement is 162 kilometers
the Challenge level -- one kilometer for each of the 81 years -- being 81 kms over the 26 days

YOUR DAILY minimum for all levels is ONE KM - every single day of the challenge

Category 2

The Bicycle Challenge -- we also will be working off the 81 st anniversary -- and will have three levels as well --

-- YOUR DAILY minimum is FIVE KM - every single day of the Challenge

Returning this year  Category 3

The Trooper Challenge -- This category is for anyone who wants to participate but just is not able to fully participate in the other two categories.  Like the other two challenges -- this category has a daily minimum and a total Challenge requirement

The Daily Minimum -- keeping with the 81 st anniversary of D-DAY, - that daily minimum will be 810 seconds of physical activity  -- ANY physical activity over and above what you would normally do each day  -  so that is just 13.5 minutes   for a daily minimum.  In addition to the daily minimum you as well have a total challenge target over the entire 26 day total  - that being a total goal of 10 hours (which is 600 minutes)

For those who elect to make a donation - your certificate will include your name and the total distance travelled - including what level you attain -- if you COMPLETE the Challenge -both the daily and total kilometers --

Finally for those who wish to donate to our NO STONE LEFT ALONE campaign but don't wish to participate in the challenge  there will be two spots to do so  $35 and $50
