Whovian Running Club is pleased to announce our fifth event of 2017:

The Adipose Five Kilos!

Ten minutes past one, every night, bang on the dot without fail...an Adipose was born! Now, most of us would love to lose a kilo a day, and many of us would even be okay with it involving the creation of cute little lifeforms! The Adipose 5k celebrates the cutest creatures in all of time and space! This 4" 'medal' is only partially metal...it will have a metal back with 3-dimensional, soft PVC rubber so it will look and feel just like an Adipose! And...the custom sublimated ribbon has other brothers and sisters of the Adipose flying up the blue beams to the spaceships!

The Adipose were just kids needing mommies and daddies. Whovian Running Club is humbled and honored to announce that our charity partner for the Adipose 5k will be Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome (RODS)! RODS' mission is simple. They promote the adoption of orphans with Down syndrome by raising adoption grant funds, one child at a time, and by participating in organized, athletic races and awareness events. They literally run for orphans! The funds they raise cover a large portion of the expense to get children from orphanages in the developing world to forever homes in the US and Canada. RODS' target for each child is $15,000.

RODS has allowed Whovian Running Club to select the orphan we will be supporting. Ladies and Gentlemen of WRC, we'd like you to meet Charlie.

Charlie is four years old. Charlie is tenacious and determined. He will work at new skills until he has grasped them – whether learning to balance or stealing crackers to share with the other children! Charlie is adventurous and loves to explore (sounds like a certain Time Lord we all know!). His caretakers report that he is always curious about fresh things in life. Charlie has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome and patent foramen ovale, a hole in his heart, but he has normal cardiac function and is otherwise healthy. The suggested run date for this event is Sunday, August 20th. This is WRC's Seventh event (including 2016) and August 20th is the birthday of Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor! How perfect is that?!? This is just a fun suggestion...you are welcome to complete your 5k whenever you want!

We are planning to mail these medals the week after registration closes (around August 25th). However, due to the complexity of the PVC/metal medals, there might be a delay of a few days. We are hoping for the best, but just wanted to let you know up front.
