BWR CEDAR CITY IS HAPPENING in 2020!

MONUMENTS OF CYCLING ANNOUNCE NEW GRAVEL & ROAD CYCLING EVENT IN CEDAR CITY!

THE BELGIAN WAFFLE RIDE TO BE JOINTLY HOSTED BY CEDAR CITY AND POLICY KINGS BREWERY

Welkom to the most unique cycling event in the U.S.—the Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride—affectionately known as the BWR. This is the inaugural edition of the Cedar City event and the first BWR to be held outside of San Diego, as Covid-19 would have it. We're excited to offer something completely different with the Cedar City location and give riders a chance to race when there hasn’t been such an opportunity for eight months with the pandemic.
The BWR CC has a parcourse that is quite the juxtaposition to the ones we have run in San Diego. The only Euro-style Spring Classic on American soil, the Canyon BWR SD is a road race punctuated by 17 faux pave sectors (read: dirt for 53-miles) over roughly 138-miles and 12,000 feet of climbing. Cedar City’s is a gravel race broken up with roughly 10 road sectors and half the climbing of San Diego. Regardless of the vital stats, the BWR CC race will offer up the same type of insanity, challenge and the unparalleled experience that has made the BWR notorious and noteworthy.

For the first time, the iconic BWR will be staged at elevation in the beautiful and rugged West Desert of Southern Utah. The BWR provides professional and amateur cyclists the opportunity to ride the most coveted gravel roads and off-road sectors throughout the region over a 125-mile route that features sectors though the famous Red Hills, the Parowan Gap, along Little Salt Lake, Kanarra Mountain and around Granite Mountain; all set with the beautiful background of the Cedar Mountains and Dixie National Forest to the east.

Created as an extremely challenging race in the spirit of the great European one-day Spring Classics, BWR, with a Belgique theme, is an unusually difficult race. There will be two distances on offer in Cedar City, the longer Waffle event and the half as long Wafer event, for those looking to get a taste of the fun without the life-changing commitment of the Waffle.

The BWR will be offering a prize purse to the top five riders, both female and male.  Last year the San Diego BWR female participation exploded and all the event stakeholders want to keep that growth going across the board. The BWR is looking to build female participation and is offering a special registration promotion for women.

This inaugural BWR Cedar City event will have a deep field of professional road and gravel riders and an expansive list of hungry amateur riders drawn to the unique opportunity to race alongside their heroes, like World Tour rider, Peter Stetina, who won the 2019 San Diego edition. Racers and event patrons will be treated to food, pre- and post-event, adhering to watch Health Officials will allow on race day. After the race, there will be finely brewed ale from Policy Kings Brewery, more waffles and more beer on tap. The Waffle race itself promises unparalleled punishment for entrants along a 125-mile course, which features roughly 6,000 feet of undulating climbs, at an average altitude of 5,800 feet, with over 60-miles of off-road terrain that harken to the teeth-rattling cobblestones of Europe’s most grueling races. The course has a variety of different surfaces; gravel, single track, rocky trails, sandy sections and even some asphalt and bike paths.

Prior to the event, there will be a special VIP event at Policy Kings Brewery on Friday, October 16. At this special event for the media, the 2020 BWR Feature Film will be shared, the course will be revealed in detail, there will special race-related presentations riders won’t want to miss, the pros will be interviewed, and cyclists of all stripes will be able to rub shoulders with all the celebrities on hand for the epic weekend.

On Saturday, the Expo will take place at the Policy Kings Brewery in Cedar City, promising to be lots of family fun all day! Expo festivities kick-off Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 a.m. and are open to the public. The Belgian theme will be in full force with a host of unique entertainment features. A variety of beers reflecting incredible monastic brewing crafts will be a featured attraction for this unique occasion. Attendees can peruse a wide range of offerings from event sponsors and over 40 vendors!
