September 14th, 2021
Dear Desert’s Edge Triathletes,
It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2021 Desert’s Edge Triathlon that was to occur Saturday, September 18th, 2021. A number of factors went into this decision and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes our athletes. The primary goal for all events hosted by the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience to our participants. As a result of unforeseen circumstances and factors beyond our control, we are no longer able to do so with this year's event.
What does this mean to you?
We are encouraging all athletes to defer their registrations to the 2022 Desert’s Edge Triathlon Festival. And yes, we said festival. We have big plans to expand next year's event and will provide more entertainment options for participants, their families, and the general public. Details to come on this.
All registrations will be automatically deferred to the 2022 Desert’s Edge Triathlon Festival and there is no further action needed from you. If you do not wish to defer your registration, please contact us at email@example.com or 970-248-1378 before Thursday, September 30th and we will work with you to refund your 2021 registration.
What can you do now?
We know you trained for this race and we are sorry we cannot offer you a timed and competitive event this year. However, in conjunction with the Colorado Mesa University Triathlon Team, we have decided to set up the course this Saturday, September 18th, 2021 at Highline Lake State Park. We are inviting all participants to come out and do the triathlon on their own starting at 8:00am. Choosing to do so will not affect your 2022 registration. Although swim, bike, and run courses will be marked (and can be viewed here), it is important to note that the Olympic and Sprint cycling courses will not be closed to traffic so athletes must follow rules of the road. Limited safety personnel and aid stations will still be provided. We’ll have pizza for a post training snack and giveaways throughout the morning. Everyone who shows up will walk away with some swag! We ask that if you do plan to attend this Saturday, please RSVP HERE.
The Desert’s Edge Triathlon Series is a fundraising opportunity for the CMU Triathlon Team, if you would like to still donate to them, please bring your donation on Saturday.
What about camping?
Highline Lake State Park has generously offered to refund any campsites that were booked for this weekend as a result of the race cancellation. If you were camping and do not wish to attend on Saturday, September 18th, 2021, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 970-248-1378 before Thursday, September 16th and we will coordinate the refund with Highline Lake State Park.
We sincerely apologize for this cancellation but appreciate your support and understanding. If you are looking for another challenge to participate in this fall, the Rim Rock Marathon and Half Marathon takes place on Saturday, November 6th. You can find that registration information HERE and use the special promotional code sent to you via email to get 25% off your registration.
Thank you for being part of our Desert’s Edge Triathlon family and we look forward to seeing you back at the official race again in 2022!
