2. Know your subject.
3. Know your purpose.
4. Know your message.
We are also going to teach you how to overcome your anxiety and build your confidence as a speaker. Overcoming public speaking anxiety is a serious matter for many people who suffer from anxiety about public speaking-this article will talk about the nervousness associated with delivering a speech and how to overcome it. The first thing to remember here is that everyone gets nervous before they get up to speak, no matter how many times they have done it.
There are many reasons you might be called on to speak in front of an audience. You may be running for local office, or need to address a group of people at a banquet or a fundraiser. However, most of the times that you have to get up and speak in front of people will probably be work-related. This is why it is so important to feel comfortable talking in front of groups.
While the nervousness you will be feeling before you speak is natural, anxiety and public speaking certainly doesn’t feel that way. In order to prevent this feeling from getting out of control, the first thing that you should do when called on to address a group of people is to prepare.
This means reading all of the materials available on the subject at hand. After that, you need to establish a point of view about the material. This will be the topic. Then, by making note cards with speaking points, you will able to rehearse your speech in front of coworkers or family. Practicing your speech and knowing the material is the number one way to get eliminate the anxiety associated with public speaking.
Right before your speech, go over your notes. This is a great warm-up, especially if you do it in the room where you will be speaking. Make sure that your notes are on 3×5 cards. If your hands are shaking, people won’t notice as much as if you were holding loose-leaf paper.
Make sure that you have a bottle of water with you. One of the symptoms of anxiety and public speaking is that you will have dry mouth. It is perfectly alright to take a few sips of water before and also during your speech.
If you have a chance, talk to a few people who will be viewing your presentation as they arrive. You will quickly see that everyone in the audience is human; and starting a dialogue with them before the speech begins a dialogue with them that will give you more confidence.
Also know that many nervous symptoms resulting from anxiety and public speaking will disappear after a few minutes of being on stage. You have to practice the right way. You have to practice with a purpose. You have to practice with a plan.
