Please Consider Helping -- Support Sandy Lake Runners

Each year Ralph Bekintis (back right), a teacher at Sandy Lake First Nations, coaches, trains, mentors and runs with his students. The community fundraises all year long to send as many students as possible to the race.

"The kids are always training hard to participate in the Fire Fighters 10 Mile Road Race, both in the relays and as individuals. It is a challenge just to get our students out to such a race because of the tremendous travel cost. I assume this is why many other First Nation children can’t compete. We have 60 children in all that compete for the 2 teams and usually take 5 older students under the age of 19. In addition, some of our runners went on to compete in last year’s Aboriginal Games in Toronto and received medals there. Running is powerful medicine."

This year the Fire Fighters 10 Mile Road Race Committee is proud to support and help bring Mr. Bekintis and the students of Sandy Lake to Thunder Bay for the race. Please consider joining us by making a donation to the Sandy Lake Runners

Thank you!
