The Hell in High Heels 12k!

Not exactly a companion, not exactly a Time Lord, not exactly a villain...River Song is all these things and more! Professor, adventurer, and archaeologist (lover, too), she has faced off against Daleks, Weeping Angels, Vashta Nerada, the Silence and she's done it in style! River Song is a force of nature with fabulous fashion sense and the Hell In High Heels 12k celebrates her spirit as well as her iconic Christian Louboutin heels. All participants will get this amazing 3" medal on a custom satin ribbon.

River was taken from her mother and trained to do something she didn’t want to do. She was treated as a tool and didn’t know love or affection_._ At the heart of Whovian Running Club is the unwavering determination to bring an end to the needless abuse and suffering of Spanish Greyhounds (Galgos). Each year, as many as 100,000 Galgos, who've been bred to race and hunt, are murdered or abandoned in Spain. WRC will have at least one event every year in support of Galgos and we've decided to make the first event of 2018 our Galgos event! We are pleased to announce that we are once again partnering with SOS Galgos (www.sosgalgos.com) to save the Galgos....but, this year, we're doing something different.

We're not just sending funds to SOS Galgos. We're going to make a real impact. We're going to get up to 35 dogs from Spain to forever homes in the US through a program we are calling The Daphne Legacy Tour. Our plan is to help SOS Galgos recruit 35 adoptive families and then send seven "Flight Companions" who will each bring five dogs back to a major US airport where the adoptive families will take their Galgo home. With your help, this will be the single-largest overseas movement of Galgos from Spain to the United States! Additionally, the Flight Companions will take donated medication, dog crates, dog coats and blankets to Spain when they go to get the dogs. The suggested run date for this event is World Galgos Day: February 1st! This is the perfect day for us to run for the Galgos and raise awareness about the plight of these amazing animals. This is just a fun suggestion...you are welcome to complete your 12k whenever you want!

Finally, to celebrate World Galgos Day, we are offering the optional purchase of two different pieces of Galgos jewelry. It’s just $3 for the bracelet or $7 for the necklace. When someone sees you wearing one of these lovely items, it will be the perfect conversation starter to tell them about the plight of the Galgos and Whovian Running Club! Purchased items will be included with your medal when it's mailed in February.
