2018 TOUR OF THE MOON

159 Main St, Grand Junction, CO 81501, USA

DESCRIPTION

DATES: September 28-29, 2018

The Icon TOUR of the MOON is a 62-mile (metric century) and 41 mile "classic ride" ride through the unique landscape of the American West. All cyclists will start and finish at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction. The ride will begin with a spectacular trek through the Colorado National Monument. After exiting the Monument, riders may elect to tackle a metric century through the beautiful farm country and surrounding areas of Fruita or opt for the classic 41-mile classic loop back to GJ.

Colorado National Monument The Colorado National Monument, (a unit of the National Park System) requires all cyclists (regardless of whether they are in a cycling event or on their own) to have a white light that is visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front and a red light that is visible from at least 200 feet to the rear. The Monument has 3 tunnels, bored through solid rock, that does not have lights, thus the reason for the safety requirement. Also, all cyclists and support vehicles are required to use the lights in the three tunnels (you may turn them off once you’ve exited, but for your safety we would advised to leave them on during your ride). If you do not have lights, you can purchase a light set (front and Rear Lights) for $20 when you register. Also, Federal policy requires cyclist to ride single file in the Monument as is the stare law. We encourage all participants to ride in a safe manner while enjoying the beauty that the Monument offers.

Start Time Please plan to begin your ride between 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. All riders MUST be on the road by 8:30 a.m. We encourage riders to begin early to enjoy the views of the monument and to avoid afternoon thunder storms. Colorado State Patrol will not allow anyone to start prior to first light.

What will you receive?

• Fully stocked aid stations along the course • Post-ride lunch and Harvest Moon Celebration; complete with exhibitors and live music • 2018 custom designed event jersey • Chance to win dozens of valuable prizes • Ride credentials
