International Police Mountain Bicycle Association (IPMBA) Police Cyclist Course

Date:  May 12th - May 16th (Monday thru Friday)

Time: 8 AM to 4 PM

Host: Farmington Police Department

Location: Farmington Police Department

Cost: $225 per officer

Payment must be made by check to “Town of Farmington Police.”

Summary: This essential training combines Emergency Vehicle Operations for bicycle officers with patrol procedures, tactics, night operations, scenarios, and basic bike maintenance and on-the-road repairs. Learn to ride like a pro, avoid crashes, and use your bike to foil the bad guys every time.  This course includes Off-road riding and bike-specific live-fire exercises.  Mornings generally consist of classroom while afternoon training is all riding.  Offices should be able to ride a 15 to 20 miles and in generally good physical condition.  A packing/what to bring list is available below: 

MANDATORY BIKE EQUIPMENT

  • Duty Bicycle
  • Reputable manufacturer mountain
  • bike in good working order, properly fitted
  • Street/combination tires (size 26 to 29 _ 5 – 26 _ 2.1)
  • Pedal retention devices (toe clips or clipless pedals)
  • Eye protection (wraparound, clear and tinted)
  • Bicycle helmet (ANSI, Snell, or CPSC approved)
  • At least one spare tube and tire irons

 

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT

  • Padded bike shorts
  • Water bottle
  • Bike gloves
  • Cycling shoes
  • Wicking style t-shirt
  • Snack (power bar, nuts etc)
  • Rain gear
  • Sunscreen

 

MANDATORY RANGE EQUIPMENT

  • Duty firearm
  • Full duty belt
  • At least (2) spare magazines
  • Soft body armor (REQUIRED)
  • 100 rounds of training ammunition

 

We will be riding through town each day as part of class. All sworn officers who will be carrying a firearm must be identified by department uniform or have a badge visible.

PAYMENT BY CHECK ONLY!  PAYMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MAY 1ST, 2025. CHECKS MUST BE MADE OUT TO "TOWN OF FARMINGTON POLICE" and sent to 319 New Britain Avenue Unionville, CT 06085.  You will not have a seat officially until payment is received.  Upon registering on this site, you will be sent an invoice and a copy of our W-9 form to assist with payment.
