10K, 5K, and 1K races & Tot Trot
Kanata Race Day is a community fun run open to all ages.
Proceeds from this event support ongoing enhancements of the Richcraft Recreation Complex Kanata and recreation within the community.
Featuring a 10K, 5K, 1K and 200m Tot Trot, the race is held at the Richcraft Recreation Complex Kanata (RRCK). The 5/10K events start and finish on Innovation Drive and head northeast to Hines Road and continue into the Nordion Canada campus. Runners will do an out and back loop and then be directed onto the Monk Conservation Trail for a little over 1K until they reach the finish line, The 5K does one loop, the 10K covers two loops. The 1K is an out and back route along Innovation Drive.
The 2019 race is the 10th year and one of a number of fundraising initiatives undertaken by by newly elected Kanata North Councillor Jenna Sudds and the Kanata North Recreation Centre Inc. All proceeds support the enhancement of the Richcraft Recreation Complex-Kanata (RRCK) and its programming.
The original facility design called for just a 6-lane swimming pool and a small skateboard park. Fundraising has supported the addition of 2 swim lanes thus creating an 8-lane pool suitable to meet the aquatic recreation needs of Kanata and West Carleton residents. The larger pool is now home to various swim clubs and teams, offers more swim lessons, and more opportunities for adult fitness swimming. Fundraising has also expanded the expanded skateboard park, which now serves a large child, youth and adult population. Without your support, these worthwhile additions would not be possible.
While the RRCK is fully built and operating, we are still in need of fundraising dollars to meet our financial commitments to this facility. Also, programming in the wooded March Highlands surrounding the facility is offered through a unique Junior Ranger program initiated by Marianne Wilkinson.
