Legacy Capital Speaker Series #5 - HYDRATION Importance while Running to Prevent Heat Illness/Exercise Exhaustion

DESCRIPTION

Dr. Roberto Medina MD

Dr. Roberto De Jesus Medina is a board-certified primary care sports medicine physician. Dr. Medina’s medical degree in family medicine provides him with the foundation to treat patients as a whole entity, integrating patients within their family and social environment while also providing preventative care.

He obtained his medical degree and completed his residency in family medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center. Dr. Medina then completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.

His passion for sports and physical activities comes from the foundation and drive built around competing in soccer at the highest level. Dr. Medina previously pursued a career as a professional goalkeeper but found a greater passion for medicine and healing after suffering knee injuries while competing on the field. Thanks to that experience, he found a purpose and drive to providing the best and most up-to-date management of any type of injury in order to help others return to the activities they feel passionately about.

As a primary care sports medicine physician, not only does Dr. Medina take care of injuries, concussions, and other musculoskeletal issues, but also medical conditions that affect the active population such as environmental-induced injuries, mechanical dermatological conditions, infections, anemia in athletes, glycemic and blood pressure control in active diabetic and hypertensive patients, exercise in pregnancy  and more. You might also spot Dr. Medina on the sidelines as he also serves as a team physician and resource for many of the local school districts in the Woodlands and surrounding areas, providing acute and emergency care for game coverage, marathons, and other sporting events.
