Open House: Learn about Bagpipes

Main St, Concrete, WA 98237, USA

DESCRIPTION

FREE BAGPIPE WORKSHOP
Join us on Saturday, December 14, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Concrete Theatre to learn about bagpipes. In collaboration with the Celtic Arts Foundation, this free workshop is hosted by the Concrete Chamber of Commerce as part of our Celtic Christmas Celebration.

You'll also have the option of sitting in on the music workshop, scheduled during this same time in Act One Ice Cream Parlor. It's a Celtic Music Open House!

What to Expect
During this unique workshop, participants will have the opportunity to:

- Learn about bagpipes: Discover these excellent instruments' history and cultural significance.

- Hands-on experience: Get up close and personal with bagpipes and experience how they work and sound.

- Play along: Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, you'll have the chance to try your hand at playing!

- The workshop is open to anyone aged 14 and up—an adult must accompany minors.

Particular Focus on the Chanter
One of the workshop's highlights will be the practice chanter, a fantastic tool for learning how to play the bagpipes. The practice chanter is quieter and easier to handle, making it perfect for beginners. Participants will learn how to use this essential instrument, which mimics the fingerings of a full bagpipe but allows for more manageable practice sessions. You'll get to see how it produces sound through a simple reed mechanism, giving you a taste of what it's like to play bagpipes without the full volume!

This is not just a workshop; it's a fun, informal gathering where you can meet fellow enthusiasts and immerse yourself in the rich tradition of Celtic music.
