Running WITH Refugees 68.5 Mile "Virtual" Challenge

DESCRIPTION

I ACTUALLY Run -- You VIRTUALLY Support

68.5 million. That's a big number to wrap your head around. And when this number refers to the 68.5 million HUMANS around the world today who have been forced from their homes to escape persecution, violence, human rights violations, and even death it's just a staggering number.

You may know about my work over at @refugeesoccer creating moments of hope and happiness through soccer around the world. We are working fearlessly to help as many of those 68.5mm humans as we can. We are small but we are bold and we are tireless. (Check out our latest project to help 3,000 kids in Boko Haram territory.)

As the leader of Refugee Soccer and in the spirit of being BOLD and being TIRELESS I am announcing an ambitious effort for the month of May. I am going to run 68.5 miles this month!

Again: I RUN -- YOU SUPPORT

Each mile will represent 1 million displaced HUMANS without a home. Without food security. Without health. Without safety. Without hope. I am running this many miles because I have been and will continue to Stand WITH Refugees. We can make the world, and our little corner of it, better by focusing on the concept of WITH, not without.

Here's a little context for you:

  • The most I've ever run in one month is ~62 miles.
  • Depending on who you ask, I'm (currently) 15-20 pounds overweight.
  • I've just finished nursing a hamstring strain that slowed me down for two months.
  • I've only run 130 miles TOTAL so far this entire year, averaging 32.5 miles per month = < half of this month's mileage.
  • And I have had an annoying head cold since May 1.

So...yeah this is a little bold/crazy and I know this will not be EASY but I don't care. My life, my challenges are literally NOTHING compared to the lives of 68.5 million humans around the world who have no home. no security, and very little to hope for.
