Samhain 2017

DESCRIPTION

Samhain is the end of the third and final harvest. It was at this time that some of the crops were left in the field to give thanks for the bounty of the previous year. It was also a time of the darkening, of shortening days, and so people would hollow out gourds and place candles in them to light their way. It was at this time, when the veil was thin and the ancestors could cross back into the world of the living, that people would leave plates of food and drink on the porch, for those that returned. It was a time to honor those that have gone before us, to recognize what they have contributed to our world, and to celebrate with them. To honor this tradition, a table will be set aside for pictures of the beloved dead. In addition, we will have a séance. During the séance, you may also receive messages. Please feel free to share those messages either verbally or by writing the message down for the person. It is always a good idea to plan ahead and invite the beloved dead you would like to be in attendance. This can be done in many ways, from writing an actual invitation on paper and leaving it on their grave to just sitting in a quiet place and thinking an invitation to them. There will be tarot readings as well. All this will be held within sacred space. Food will be potluck, so please go to the food list and let everyone know what you are bringing.
