The Slug Club Armchair to 5k!

Professor Horace Slughorn is a wonderfully complex character and proof that while a Slytherin might desire power and influence, they can also be chivalrous and selfless. Despite the fact that he was born in a pure-blood family (one of the so-called "Sacred Twenty Eight"), he wasn't prejudiced against half-bloods and muggle-borns and frequently "collected" those students into his "Slug Club" if they were well connected, held fame, or showed true magical talent. When the time came to defend Hogwarts, Professor Slughorn did not back down. He rounded up reinforcements and then fought side-by-side with Professor McGonagall and Kingsley Shacklebolt dueling the Dark Lord directly.

PHRC is not alone in our efforts to change the world though the power of fandom...there are others...they are our friends, our family...OUR "Slug Club." Potterhead Running Club is thrilled to announce our THREE charity partners for this event are the three other non-profits in the Harry Potter Fandom: The Harry Potter Alliance, Transfiguring Adoption and the Protego Foundation! The HPA is a long time friend and together we've built a library in Uganda and helped train the next generation of Wizard Activists through the Granger Leadership Academy. Transfiguring Adoption uses the lessons from Harry Potter to develop media, resources, and tools that nurture growth in foster and adoptive children specifically focused on providing critical support to foster parents as they handle tough issues that many foster children face. Finally, the Protego Foundation is inspired by the wizarding world to fight for animal rights in the muggle/no-maj world. Our four organizations read the same seven books and each came away with a unique inspiration, but all have the same goal to make the world better.

The suggested run date for the Slug Club Armchair to 5k is Saturday, March 9th to celebrate the birth of the one and only: Sybill Trelawney. Happy Birthday, Professor Trelawney! Did you see this coming? Remember, this is only a fun suggestion. Being a virtual run, you’re welcome to complete your distance whenever, wherever, and however you choose!

Registration closes at midnight on March 24th (or early morning on the 25th depending on your Time Zone). All medals will be mailed on Monday, April 1st...and that's no joke!
