Join our photo lessons at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, which is one of the excellent locales in the rotation of many Chicago venues that offer terrific photo opportunities.
Master Your Camera Controls
For each Master Your Camera Controls, a maximum of 5 attendees sit for 90 minutes with the instructor who will walk you through the manual camera controls of your specific camera. More than 5 attendees would be too chaotic if each person brings a different camera, with different controls.
After enrollment we procure the exact camera manufacturer and model in advance so the teacher is sure to point out any special features. This allows the photographer the option of overriding the automatic camera controls which sometimes disengage because the mechanics of the camera miscalculate the visual effect you are attempting.
Composition in the Field
This Composition in the Field class is designed to provide you with an opportunity to photograph both the interior and exterior of the church. The intricate antique designs inside offer perfect subjects for experimenting with composition. On the other hand, the exterior of the church showcases stunning architecture that can serve as a backdrop for portrait photos or the main subject for a still life.
During the first half of the class, focus on shooting inside this amazing church. Afterward, spend an hour capturing the exterior, and then convene at Star Lounge Cafe (2521 W. Chicago Ave.) to warm up and review everyone’s images.
Participate in this workshop to explore the possibilities and challenges of shooting in different lighting situations. Led by a pro DPA instructor, this informative, enjoyable, and challenging session will guide students in capturing high-quality imagery in an unexpected venue. The emphasis will be on achieving balance within the frame, mastering exposure, and refining composition skills. Shooting inside a beautiful cathedral allows us to delve into the details through our lenses.
In this workshop, students will see behind the lens differently, learning to utilize everything available to create remarkable imagery. Composition in the Field encourages the ability to capture great photos in any location. Our church locations have been incredibly popular, and here are some images of delighted students focused on capturing that perfect shot.
The Master Your Camera Control session is always taught very close to the meeting spot of the Composition in the Field session. This makes it easy for those who want to enroll in both classes.
