Steering and Suspension – Course Description
Maybe you’ve asked yourself, “Why does this car have so many control arms?” Or, “Why does this European vehicle ride and handle so differently than U.S. domestic vehicles?” As with many automotive systems, steering and suspension continue to evolve. European automakers have long led the way in advancing these technologies, and understanding these systems is key to diagnosing and repairing today’s vehicles.
This steering and suspension course, hosted by MEYLE, is ideal for both beginner and intermediate technicians.
This training will explore technologies in both steering and suspension, providing technicians with insights into common failures, diagnostics, tips and tricks, and best practices for effective repair.
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
• Understand the advantages of Four-Link Suspension systems
• Recognize the effects of “bump steer” on alignment
• Apply best practices for checking suspension systems
• Perform proper installation techniques
• Identify modern suspension technologies that improve ride quality and safety
• Explain how Electric Power Steering (EPS) works and its similarities to hydraulic systems
• Determine when to replace electric rack-and-pinion units and understand their interaction with other vehicle systems
