TAHPERD Virtual 5K

TAHPERD Virtual 5K

In addition to providing our members with professional development, perspective on legislation, and recognizing teaching excellence, we also strive to help outside the classroom too! Staying active and healthy is something we can all do together.

To help, we’ve created a virtual* 5K run/walk event that brings our community together, taking the important message of fitness, health, and education "to the streets." We hope you'll join us!

Why participate?

  • Raise money for a good cause — part of your registration fee helps us fund our mission AND sponsor a local teacher or school to receive The Hip Hop Healthy Heart Program for Children™ curriculum.
  • Excuse to exercise — we all need more of it. Your heart will thank you!
  • Friendship — ask a friend, colleague or family member to join you. Trust us, they will thank you later!
  • Fun — "virtual" doesn’t have to mean alone. Find a place to meet (park, school, gym, etc.) and run/walk together.
  • Sponsor a child — want to be a local hero? Sponsor a child and allow them to experience the joy and camaraderie of crossing the "finish line" and celebrating with friends/family.

About Hip Hop Healthy Heart Program for Children

Comprehensive healthy literacy curriculum (mind, body and emotion) for K-6th grade, created to “Build A Culture of Health” through our educational system. Offers children the chance to prevent obesity and build the essential foundation for a healthy life.

The mission of the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD) is to promote healthy, physically-active lifestyles for all Tennesseans.

*What is a virtual run?

A virtual run/walk can happen anytime and anywhere, even on a treadmill. It's not about where and when you run. You have complete freedom to choose a time and place convenient for you and can even break up the run as you see fit. You can also run with friends! In fact, we encourage it!
