The Fabulous Life of Lina Prokofiev

410 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036, USA

DESCRIPTION

The Fabulous Life of Lina Prokofiev is a monodrama of narratives, songs, and live music, illuminating the real-life story of the wife of the Russian pianist and composer Sergei Prokofiev.

Her life changed dramatically when, after years of living in New York and Paris, she moved with Sergei to Moscow. As a foreigner, Lina was denounced in 1948 as a counter-revolutionary spy and sentenced to 20 years hard labour in the Gulag. But she never gave up. In Lina’s words: “Life is fabulous! If you never stop fighting!”.

Her struggle is repeated today as the world is again in a state of flux: people are still being accused of fabricated charges, taken away, detained, disappeared, sent to 're-education camps'.

This play will appeal to anyone who is interested in 20th century or Soviet history, human rights, classical music, women's narratives, or enduring love stories.
