The Home Run is a 5K fun run organized in collaboration with One Young World to raise awareness and support for refugees and stateless people. There are more than 60 million people displaced from their homes, including those from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo and elsewhere. Some of them, including the elderly, women, and children, are also stuck in the limbo of statelessness, in which they are not only uprooted but no state recognizes their citizenship. The Home Run is pleased to be raising funds for Refugee 613, a network of agencies and individuals helping refugees to start new lives in Ottawa.
On September 27, join more than 1,000 young global leaders and Ottawa residents to run, walk, and cheer in honour of those who have travelled thousands of miles to create better futures, and those still searching for sanctuary. The One Young World Summit brings the brightest young people from around the world together with world leaders and invites NGOs, academics and forward-thinking organizations to participate in the discussion and search for solutions on global issues.
The event is produced by Run Ottawa, organizers of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, and a portion of the proceeds will go to 'Refugee 613', a coalition of local agencies and individuals working together to resettle refugees.
We encourage you to also donate directly to Refugee 613 by going to the Canada Helps page of their host agency, OCISO where the donations function invites you to apply your donation to a specific fund. Choose option #3, Refugee 613 Project.
Our friends at Epic Fitness will be the official warm up crew at the Shaw Centre (race starting location) and race pick up will be day of at the Westin Ottawa. Stay tuned for more details.
