Wolfe island Classic 5K & 10K 2019

DESCRIPTION

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the 39th Annual Wolfe Island Classic 5 & 10K Run/Walk. Come enjoy our island hospitality and at the same time try a bit of a challenge.

The Wolfe Islander III leaves from the foot of Barrack St in Kingston for a beautiful and relaxing 20-minute free ride to the village of Marysville. We recommend that you leave your car in Kingston as once you arrive on the Island everything associated with the race is within walking distance.

PLEASE NOTE : Due to a change in the schedule of the ferry running from Kingston to Wolfe Island, the start time for the 5K & 10K races has been changed to 10 a.m.

PLEASE NOTE : There is a cap on the number of people -- walk-ons and those in cars -- who can be loaded on the ferry. There was a problem last year (2018) in that too many would-be participants waited until the last possible ferry to get to the island in time for the race. This resulted in the cap being reached and some people not being able to get on the boat. While those who come to kit pick up the day before the race are told about this possibility, we've not previously posted a warning about it online as it has not been a problem. However, we will be mentioning this from now on. We recommend taking the 8:00 a.m. ferry from Kingston, rather than waiting for the one at 9:00 a.m. We are looking at ways of enhancing the pre-race experience for those who do take the early ferry and will post details when plans have been formalized.

If you are coming from the U.S., it's a short 5-minute ride on the William Darrell ferry from Cape Vincent, New York, followed by a 10-kilometre drive to the village.

The races start in the village and follow an out-and-back course. The finish-line is 1 kilometre west of the start-line. You can go for a swim or wade as soon as you’re done as the finish is on the shore of Lake Ontario. There will be a “Bag Check” truck near the start-line that will take your bags to the finish-line.

There is also a fun race for kids 2-7 years old. The free Kiddie Kilometre (not really a km) is just before the regular race and great fun for the kids and those watching as well. Registration is not necessary : a table will be set up near the start line with bibs, etc. for the kids.

All proceeds from our race go to support the Wolfe Island Community Medical Clinic.

The Wolfe Island Classic is part of the Kingston Road Runners Association (KRRA) race series. **Members of KRRA will collect series points for the 5K only. **The promo code will be emailed to all members by the KRRA executive.

Also check out the Tri-Island Series. The first event in the challenge is the Howe Island Hustle in May, followed by the Wolfe Island Classic in July, and the Wooly Bully on Amherst Island in August. Those completing all three events will receive a beautiful medal as a reward for their efforts. More info to follow shortly. 2019 will be the third year for this popular series.
