2025 Oceanside Intl Film Festival: The Surf Lineup, Part 2 featuring "Creatures of Habit" with opening short films Moving in Perfect Harmony, Intermission, Ocean State of Mind and Return to Zero.

Creatures of Habit (38 minutes - Tofino, BC, Canada) Directed by Nate Laverty, Filmed in the Pacific Northwest and Iceland, Creatures of Habit explores pushing boundaries and embracing uncertainty by surfing in unpredictable and challenging to access locations. The aim is to leave behind the comforts and absolutes learned over time and to embrace the cold and unknown. features Cam Richards, Pete Devries, and Sanoa Olin.

 

Return to Zero (26 minutes - Ojai, CA) a film by Amado Stachenfeld, Return to Zero is a 16mm film about life and death shown through the evolving versions of a surfboard. From Long Board to short, we see a single piece of foam take multiple shapes and forms to be ridden by some of the world best surfers. Death is nothing more than and extension of life. featuring Andrew Fletcher, Anna Gudauskas, Kassia Meador, Trvor Gordon, Grant Noble and more.

 

Ocean State of Mind (4 minutes, New England area) directed by Danny Hardesty, As adulthood brings increasing complexity, Rhode island surfer Curtis Perdue finds space for his mental health in the icy waters of New England. With a deep love for the ocean instilled by his late father, Curtis aims to inspire lifelong passions in his own children and pass down a legacy of stoke.

 

 
Intermission (5 minutes - San Clemente, CA) directed by Gavin Grant, this student film is a compilation of renowned surfers taking a break from their day-to-day lives to catch the best waves. Featuring Crosby Colapinto, Jett Schilling, Ian Crane, Cannon Carr, Taj Lindblad, Dane Matson, and many more!
 

 
 Moving in Perfect Harmony (2 Minutes - Laguna Beach) is High School student filmmaker Reef X Applebaum's way of showcasing the love for their sports and how they use them to cope with hardships, as well as a means to express their personality. Applebaum uses a combination of vibrant cinematography to showcase their perspective on how these sports feel to them alongside a deep poetic narration to further explain how the sports in question complete them as a human.
