AICC Events | A Business Luncheon with Simon Westaway, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Airports Association

DESCRIPTION

The AICC in South Australia is pleased to invite you, your guests and your colleagues to:

A Business Luncehon with Simon Westaway, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Airports Association

Join us as Simon explores ‘Australian Airports and Flying into the Future’ - a timely discussion on Adelaide Airport’s international growth, mining-driven charter expansion, and the opportunities and challenges shaping Australia’s aviation future.

As CEO at the AAA since November 2024, Simon has 25 years of senior executive experience principally within Australian aviation and tourism. The AAA today represents around 350 Australian airports, including all our major airports (such as Melbourne) and critical regional air gateways, along with hundreds of corporate members.

Australian Airports today generate well in excess of $105 billion in annual economic output for our country and represent around 5% of Gross Domestic Product through the associated industry and activity. Safe and affordable aviation is both critical and necessary for Australian society and our future economy.

Simon was a former Executive General Manager and founding executive member of Jetstar Airways, from its commencement in 2004.

He was also former senior executive with Impulse Airlines, once a major regional airline, which was purchased by Qantas, after its low-cost domestic start-up.

He is a former EGM of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Tourism Australia, our national tourism agency.  And a former senior executive at leading Australian companies BHP, Orica and early in his career at Medibank Private.

He was part of a boutique corporate consultancy in Melbourne, Royce, where he headed their business practice for 6 years, prior to running the AAA.  Simon was raised and educated in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley in NSW.

He has a degree in Communications (University of Newcastle) and post graduate certificate in Asian Business Studies at the University of Melbourne.

Outside of aviation and politics, he has a strong interest in cricket and all forms of footy, loves good wine and making interesting LinkedIn posts.
