Bob Babbitt's 40th Anniversary Party

DESCRIPTION

COME JOIN US FOR THE IRONMAN CLASS OF 1980’S

40th ANNIVERSARY PARTY!

On January 12, 1980, the third edition of the Ironman World Championship was held on the island of Oahu and this would be the last Ironman on the island before moving to Kona in 1981. 108 crazies and their support crews were there that day including newcomers to the event Dave Scott, Bob Babbitt, Ned Overend, Dave McGillivray, John Howard, Chuck Neumann, Tom Boughey, Rick Kozlowski and Kurt Madden, among others.

Dave Scott will be joining us and he not only won that third ever Ironman, he took nearly two hours off of the existing course record. He went on to win five more Ironman World Championship titles, finish second three times, fifth once and become the first inductee into the Ironman Triathlon Hall of Fame. On that day in January of 1980, Dave’s mom and dad followed him during the bike ride with a spare BIKE on the roof of the station wagon and one of his bike shoes was duct taped to the pedal.

Join us to talk story, re-connect with really, really old friends, meet some of the true legends of our sport, kick off the 2020 season and celebrate not only a very special 40th anniversary, but to also toast two very special Ironmen who passed away in 2019, Mike Plant and Mike Levine.

The photos from 1980 of John Howard and Dave Scott are from the great Carol Hogan.
