Cold climate viticulture: From dream to reality

Establishing a vineyard in the cold climate of the Ottawa region was once thought impossible, but Jan-Daniel Etter has grown his dream into reality. Join Etter — co-owner of the Vignoble Clos du Vully, located on the outskirts of Navan — on a journey through wine making. This vineyard grows 5,000 cold climate vines, planted between 2008 and 2011 on a clay-loam slope. Etter grows five varieties of grapes, and some are bought from two Niagara-on-the-Lake producers. Over the course of the evening, you’ll learn about the viticultural and oenological practises for winters as cold as ours.

Tickets include the sampling of one white wine and one red wine from the Vignoble Clos du Vully. This presentation will be given in French, followed by a bilingual question-and-answer period.

Location: Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, presented in the Three Sisters Hall, Learning Centre
