"Strawberry Jam" (for Helen Mayer Harrison)

Performance & lecture on eco-feminism & Helen's contribution to environmental art including an homage to her 1974 installation at the Women's Building in Los Angeles. As part of Pacific Standard Time, "Art and Science Collide" organized by the Getty Museum, the retrospective on the Harrison's pioneering California work. 

Barbara Benish is an artist, curator, writer and farmer.  She studied Ethnography & Art  (University of,  Hawai’i), Painting (MFA, Claremont Graduate University), and at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. She moved to Prague in 1993 as a Fulbright scholar and stayed. Her work has been shown at numerous institutions in Europe and the U.S., including P.S.1 Museum, the Getty Museum, the Stadtgeschichtliche Museen in Nurnberg, Germany, and the National Gallery in Prague, including over 200 exhibitions since 1979. Benish is Founding Director of ArtMill in rural Bohemia, which is an expansion of her vision of art as social practice working with students, artists, and locals.  She has been an Advisor to the United Nations Environmental Program, a Fellow at the Social Practice Arts Research Center , (UCSC) and co-author of Form, Art, & the Environment (Routledge, 2017), which are public manifestations of a deeply committed activism. She continues to create installations, interventions and paintings on environmental and social issues integral to our time.
