New York pianist and Steinway Artist Richard Dowling celebrates Valentine’s Day at Piedmont Center for the Arts with a program of romantic piano favorites including Clair de lune, Liebestraum, and the Warsaw Concerto, as well as popular songs by Gershwin (The Man I Love and Someone to Watch Over Me) and syncopated ragtime tunes from The Sting by Scott Joplin. Mr. Dowling is well-known for his interpretations of the great American composers Gershwin, Gottschalk, and Joplin. This concert is sure to be a big hit!

Dowling appears regularly throughout America in solo recitals, at music festivals, and as guest soloist with orchestras. Works of Chopin, Debussy, Joplin, Gershwin, Gottschalk, Ravel, ragtime, and early jazz figure prominently in his extensive repertoire which also includes over thirty piano concertos. He has received reviews that praise him as “a master of creating beautiful sounds with impeccable control of colors and textures,” as “a musician with something to say, the skill to say it and the magnetic power to make you want to listen,” and for giving “a superb recital that left the audience craving for more at the end.” He is a versatile recording artist with over a dozen CDs of classical, chamber, ragtime, jazz, and popular music. His Complete Piano Works of Scott Joplin 3-CD album was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Mr. Dowling holds degrees from the schools of music at Yale and the University of Texas and two performing certificates from conservatories in France. In recognition of his dedication to French musical art and his fluency in the French language, he was inducted as an Officier de Musique of the renowned Company of Musketeers of Armagnac, an historic French honor society.
