J. S. Bach to Bruce Stark, flute & piano
William Underwood III, flute, and Carl Blake, piano, invite you to an afternoon of chamber music on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Piedmont Center for the Arts. The program journeys from the Baroque to the modern eras, opening with a sonata by J. S. Bach and continuing with 20th & 21st century compositions representing France, Central Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
Bay Area–based artists Underwood and Blake have collaborated since 2022.
ARTIST BIOS:
William Underwood III, flute, holds a Bachelor of Science in Music degree from Florida A&M University and a Master of Music in Flute Performance degree from Wayne State University. He has toured Japan extensively with Kyodo Tokyo Inc. and is active as a solo, collaborative, and recording artist.
Carl Blake, piano, holds three degrees in piano performance: a Bachelor of Music (magna cum laude) from Boston University, a Master of Arts from San José State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Cornell University. Dr. Blake has performed three times at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) and has toured Russia, France, England, Central and South America, and the Caribbean as an Artistic Ambassador for the U. S. Department of State, in collaboration with cellist Kim Cook (Distinguished Prof. of Music, Pennsylvania State Univ.). He currently serves as Director of Music at the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, maintains a private piano studio in Oakland, and is a member of the Board of Directors of Noontime Concerts San Francisco.
